Pixel Perfect Picks #159 - Omarchy, Didn't Write, Witcher Remastered

Hey there 👋

Welcome to this installment of Pixel Perfect Picks. Here I'm sharing something that I heard, read, and saw. You can subscribe to this newsletter here. I'm additionally publishing a more extended essay about software development, design, and freelancing every month.

Saw Something

I set up Omarchy this week and it felt pretty nice and modern. DHH's take on Arch and Hyprland Linux is basically chef's choice for the agent era: fast install, sensible defaults, themes that restyle the whole desktop at once, and agents treated like first-class citizens on your machine. You get Neovim, terminals, Steam, and a Windows VM path without spending an entire weekend ricing everything yourself. Still pretty early for me, but it already feels like a computer that actually wants to be reshaped. It's my first real Linux maschine and feels like the perfect device to do some work for personal projects. Here is also a super deep walkthrough of Omarchy Quattro.

Read Something

Colin Breck's I Don't Want to Read What You Didn't Write is a really sharp pushback on the flood of AI-authored design docs, PR summaries, and tickets that read like statements completely stripped of context. He still uses models hard for verification, citations, grammar, and diagrams, but he does not let them write the paragraphs. The context gap landed hardest for me: the prompt author can skim useful output, while everyone else has to labor through machine text without the process that made it. Intentional writing getting more valuable feels exactly right to me.

Heard Something

I was sick the entire week heared a ton of podcasts and was reminded of a big big gaming thing. That's why I spent some time with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered. And it is really, really good. CD PROJEKT RED's free upgrade for existing owners arrived September 29 with modernized visuals, combat, and skills, and both expansions included even if you only owned the base game. A decade on, Geralt still absolutely holds when you are stuck on the sofa.

Keep Creating Awesome Stuff ✌️
