Pixel Perfect Picks #160 - WoW Forever Beta, Write the Code, Herdr

Hey there 👋

Welcome to this installment of Pixel Perfect Picks. Here I'm sharing something that I heard, read, and saw. You can subscribe to this newsletter here. I'm additionally publishing a more extended essay about software development, design, and freelancing every month.

Saw Something

World of Warcraft: Forever beta and played pretty much every evening last week. And honestly, it's fantastic. It is slower, and I'm just really enjoying being in the world again, with a lot of good old memories coming back. Retail feels like a completely different game next to it. The beta runs until October 21 with the level cap at 30, and the latest update just opened the ruined City of Dalaran as a dungeon, so there is still plenty to poke at before launch on November 4. If you're even just a little bit into RP games or MMOs it's a must to check it out!

Read Something

Carson Gross teaches computer science at Montana State, and Yes, and... is his answer to the question he keeps getting from students and relatives: given AI, should I still become a programmer? His answer is yes, with a pretty firm rule for juniors attached. You have to write the code, because if you never write it you won't be able to read it. He's really honest about his own habits too and overall it's a fairly good read.

Heard Something

On my work machine I've swapped Conductor for Herdr, running alongside Omarchy, and I want to keep it for juggling agents across projects. It's a terminal multiplexer built for coding agents: one Rust binary, a workspace per project, and a sidebar that marks every agent as working, blocked or done, so I'm not clicking through panes to find the one that's waiting on me. It doesn't wrap Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, it just owns their terminals, and because it runs as a background server the agents keep going when you close the window or drop SSH. If you want to see it running, this is a good starting point.

Keep Creating Awesome Stuff ✌️

If you like these and think someone else might too, please forward it on. They can subscribe to this newsletter right at the top at https://world.hey.com/mrvn. Thank you.
