Pixel Perfect Picks #51 - Sampling, Stupidity, Evernote UI

Hey there 👋

Welcome to this installment of Pixel Perfect Picks. Here I'm sharing something that I heard, read, and saw. You can subscribe to this newsletter here. I'm additionally publishing a more extended essay about software development, design, and freelancing every month.

Heard Something

I am a big fan of sample-based music, and occasionally I also sit in front of the sampler myself. Admittedly, I used to do this much more often in the past than I do now, but maybe that will happen again. I recently got caught up in the sampling whirlpool again when a colleague sent me his favorite episode of the YouTube series Rhythm Roulette. This one features the producer 9th Wonder. I just think it's fantastic what he manages to extract from 3 random records for samples.

Read Something

At fs.blog, I once again delved into one of my absolute favorite sources on the internet in search of new insights. After a while, I stumbled upon this post and realized that sometimes it's better to try not to be stupid rather than to win everything. I found this quote by Charlie Munger particularly interesting:
"It is remarkable how much long-term advantage people like us have gotten by trying to be consistently not stupid, instead of trying to be very intelligent."

Saw Something

My current go-to note-taking app is Evernote. Yes, many shake their heads and think that Evernote is a thing of the past. But I have to be completely honest and say that I find many of the new features incredibly good! And I also find the new UI updates very fitting!

PS: Last week was my first time live on Twitch, and I had my first two coworking sessions. This week, I also plan to be live 2-3 times. If you want a preview, I have uploaded the last stream as a VOD online. I look forward to you tuning in!

Until next time. Keep creating awesome stuff ✌️

If you like these and think someone else might too, please forward it on. They can subscribe to this newsletter right at the top at https://world.hey.com/mrvn. Thank you.
