Pixel Perfect Picks #94 - Devin, AI Quality, Shortform

Hey there 👋

Welcome to this installment of Pixel Perfect Picks. Here I'm sharing something that I heard, read, and saw. You can subscribe to this newsletter here. I'm additionally publishing a more extended essay about software development, design, and freelancing every month.

Heard Something

Okay, I have to warn you this time. This issue will once again be filled with various AI topics. But it's simply because I am currently extremely interested in it and increasingly see the impact it has on both my work and personal life. This time, I've heard about Devin. And it really feels almost like a little coding buddy accompanying me at work. Right now, Devin is working on new features for Fighill and my homepage.

Read Something

One of my biggest concerns about working with AI is the quality of work and that we may become blind to it. The recent hype around all the Ghibli images illustrates this. And somehow, that also worries me. You can find more thoughts on this in this interesting post by Julie Zhuo.

Saw Something

I love nonfiction books and am always curious to learn something new. However, I’ve recently noticed more and more that there are many books with a very small core idea, which then embellish an incredible amount of content with examples, simply to reach 200-300 pages. I saw an advertisement for something I had tried before and just had a real AHA moment! With Shortform, I’m now trying to take a different approach by reading a small book summary every day. So far, I’ve always felt extremely good about it. The interactive exercises for deepening the material work incredibly well for me!
