Pixel Perfect Picks #97 - Note Taking Deep Dive

Hey there 👋

Welcome to this installment of Pixel Perfect Picks. Here I'm sharing something that I heard, read, and saw. You can subscribe to this newsletter here. I'm additionally publishing a more extended essay about software development, design, and freelancing every month.

Saw Something

I don't really remember exactly why, but somehow this video by Carl Pullein popped up in my timeline, and it triggered something in me at the beginning of last week. I find the concept of Daily Notes that he describes in this video incredibly interesting and also just logical. However, I have never managed to do it before. Perhaps that will change now.

Read Something

As I gradually found myself deep in the note-taking rabbit hole, I came across this post by Linus about incremental note-taking, and it immediately clicked. Why have I always tried to keep my notes as up-to-date as possible when I can simply keep adding and referencing new knowledge? That's how a brain actually works. After that, I discovered Reflect and am currently trying it out intensively. After a few workdays and a weekend, I can say that the workflow feels incredibly good. This might also be due to the great resources.

Heard Something

Besides writing, reading is incredibly important to me as well. A small part of me broke when I learned that Pocket is shutting down its service. It was the first read-it-later app I used, and I still have an enormous stack of blog posts and articles in it that are just waiting to be read. If you're looking for good alternatives to Pocket, let me know 😉
