Last night I felt like I had a bit of a sinus cold. I woke up about a quarter past twelve. I was thirsty and my throat was tight. So I came downstairs for some water and an aspirin. Then I went back to sleep only to awaken about thirty minutes later. This time my throat felt tighter. It made me feel a bit panicky. It wasn’t affecting my breathing but it was uncomfortable. I came down for more water and an ibuprofen. Before taking the ibuprofen, I ate some potato chips so as not to take it on an empty stomach. I went back to bed, and didn’t awake again until close to six.
Beth and the girls had a smooth home school day. During the times I overhead them, the girls were doing well working with Beth.
After lunch, I drove out to Dan’s Towing on Rutledge Pike. I checked in at the office. It smelled like someone had smoked a thousand cigarettes in there. They directed me to where Goldie was parked in the middle of the lot. I drove my car back there and retrieved some textbooks from the back and the crossbars on top of the roof. I was a bit sentimental, and snapped a couple of photos.
On the way home I called my mother. We chatted all the way back to Kingston Pike. Then I stopped at the CVS to grab a couple cans of Liquid Death and some Fig Newtons. I snacked on them back at my desk when I got back. Beth was out picking up groceries.
I was dragging a bit by the end of the day. I felt like taking a nap, but just as I was about to, I got an alert from my clients at ETEC. Their website was showing an error after a form submission. That got my mental juices flowing, and I was able to quickly diagnose and fix the error.
In the late afternoon, Paige had her piano lesson with Mrs. Shinn. Then Ella had her ballet classes which finished at six-thirty. I was out taking a walk when Beth called to ask me to get dinner ready. She came home with Paige, and I almost had it on the table. Meanwhile, Beth headed off to church for a meeting in advance of this weekend’s Friend Quest retreat. I served Paige, Lydia, and myself at our bar in the kitchen. We all enjoyed the change of pace from dining at our dinning room table. While we ate, I asked them to share their favorite things about their new rooms. Paige said her favorite thing was the stuffed animal hammock I hung up this past Saturday, Lydia’s favorite was her bunk bed, and I mentioned our large window.
A little after six, I stepped out to go pick up Ella from ballet. Beth had left our rental van so I could experience driving it. She’d commented how it feels like the engine turns off when you’re stopped at a light, and I noticed that too. It has to be some fuel efficiency feature as the engine goes all the way down to 0 RPM on the dash and you can feel it completely quieten down.
Back home, I served Ella dinner. She got to answer my question, and she said her window was her favorite part of her new room. Beth got back home shortly before eight. Then I tucked Lydia into bed while Ella and Paige got their showers.
