From the 2022 iPad Pro announcement video.
This segment of the video talks about Stage Manager, which remains a weird...thing.
Stage Manager enables a windowed desktop on the iPad, which then extends across to external displays when one is plugged in.
In other words, it makes the iPad more like a laptop, except it also doesn't.
Managing windows and switching apps isn't intuitive given a series of mixed visual metaphors, and that external displays don't have touchscreens - I don't want them to have touchscreens, but Stage Manager is designed to work on a touchscreen, which you have to manage from the iPad while it's plugged into an external display.
The picture of a person twisted to look at their Studio Display, while managing everything from their iPad with a Magic Keyboard feels like exactly the right visual metaphor for Stage Manager.
