Monday Mornings

Garfield Says, -I Hate Mondays_-.jpg

I have always loved Mondays! There is something about the freshness of opportunity or the details in all those planned (and unplanned) moments. Mondays represent possibility!

As with most days, I start my Mondays with a cup of coffee and my journal. Lately, I've been structuring my morning journalling a little more than I used to:
  • What I'm thankful for
  • What I'm focused on in the future
  • What I need to do today to work towards that future
  • What are the big ideas that I've been thinking about?
On Mondays, I allow myself more time for the second prompt and consider the third prompt for the week ahead.

I've also begun using Monday mornings to examine the business of the teams I lead. For two hours, I consider the key metrics from the past week, note any anomalies, try to understand what's going on, and write a list of questions I'll ask the team leads.

I suppose the key to my Monday mornings is giving myself the time to be quiet, explore, and ruminate. Adding structure ensures that the time spent is not lost on the random—that's what weekends are for.
