Apropos of nothing in particular, I figured I'd post this because it's often hard in conversation to articulate how one political party in the US has become instead a countercultural, anti-progressive, neo-fascist personality cult bent on subverting elections and glorifying insurrectionary violence:
"So what happens in a two-party system when one of the major political parties gives up on democracy?"

It's a long read, so I don't blame you if you skip it. But the points raised here are well established elsewhere.
I have no love for Democrats, that's for sure. I'm not convinced how useful that binary distinction is generally, since people and their beliefs are complex and multi-faceted. But there's no denying that one party actively upholds participatory democracy and the rule of law, with a coherent and debatable policy platform, while the other stands for nothing other than adoration of Dear Leader and fantasizes about establishing an authoritarian white ethno-state. To equate the two as equally bad is inaccurate and dangerous.
