A shift supervisor for the Cedar City temple invited those in attendance this past Sunday to come work at the temple. As part of a devotional that included the temple presidency, Justin Lee spoke to a room of around 100-150 college students.
Lee admitted he was extending the invitation in part due to the difficulty he has finding full time workers for the shift he is in charge of. He suggested that when students interview with their bishops prior to becoming a worker, they should also request to be put on the Saturday third shift. He also spoke about five truths he holds dear, promising the audience that “we have a Heavenly Father who loves us.”
Later in the meeting the temple president, John Yardley, spoke with his wife Pamela. Their remarks started with a Q&A session, though the only question asked was when exactly the Saturday third shift was.
Pamela then shared two scriptures, one from Ecclesiastes about how “to every time there is a season,” and the other from the Doctrine and Covenants regarding how to receive revelation. She then invited those in the audience to ask God if they should serve in the temple as a temple worker. She expressed gratitude for those who came, saying “We see groups of you come in, and I think, ‘Somebody in your apartment said, hey let’s go over to the temple.’”
John followed her, speaking about laws and rules. After quoting another scripture from the Doctrine and Covenants, he then recited the poem “Worth While” by Emma Wheeler Wilcox. The poem describes how true praise should be given to those who can resist temptation. He then ended his remarks by saying, “You are of royal lineage. You have the ability to resist temptation, to keep yourself morally clean.”
