Juneteenth
I am a White
Cisgender
Straight
American
Male
Today is Juneteenth
It feels weird to say that.
I realize why
And I hate that it feels weird to me
I feel awkward saying
"Happy Juneteenth"
And I feel like part of that
Is because I am White
Talking about a Black
Holiday
I'm ok with being uncomfortable
But for how long?
How long will I wince thinking
About the injustice still going on
Despite the fact we freed the slaves
So many years ago?
How long will I sit here
Staring at my computer screen
The hatred for my own people
Building up inside of me
How long will I remain silent
In a world that can't find
The right words to use
Or the right order to use them in
I am a White
Cisgender
Straight
American
Male
And today
Today is Juneteenth
Cisgender
Straight
American
Male
Today is Juneteenth
It feels weird to say that.

And I hate that it feels weird to me
