Poem #18

They turn on the computer
Open the forum
And see the post made early this morning

Their heart aches

They reach for the keyboard
To type a response
And then pause

Do they make some rote remarks
Well-tread
Comforting
But not that full of heart?

Do they spend time
Precious time
Composing a thought-out
Heartfelt response
And hope the original poster
Feels those emotions?

Do they risk rejection
To bring peace?

The anxiety is contrary.

They reload the page.
Maybe someone else has replied
And they can use that
As inspiration

Instead they find
That the post has been deleted

Deflated
Tired
They close the page
And move on with life
