Poem #19

He spots the flowers
They are beautiful
They will work perfectly
In the masterpiece he is making

He begins to walk towards them
One foot after the other
His mind racing with possibilities

He waves at his neighbor
Invites them to come with him

Excitement fills his body
Until
Like a water balloon stretching at the seams
He bursts into a run

Ignoring the sudden cries of his neighbor
He races to the flowers
And begins eagerly picking them

Until he hears the groaning of his neighbor
Looks back
And realizes he has trampled through
His neighbor’s beautiful flower garden

The lillies can be replaced
But friendship
Is a harder flower to replant
