The Window

Being sad is not a big deal. I have been sad my whole life. The very first memory I have is sitting with my mother and watching television. There is nothing wrong with the scene, but I remember a feeling of sorrow everywhere. It was radiating from her heart. The reason was that my father left us alone. He did so often, but not because he was a bad person. He had to, because he worked for a secret service. He would regularly disappear for a few days, and we never knew where he was and when he would come back. That made my mom's heart bleed. She was still young and very much in love with him. He loved her, and they both loved me, but there was always a veil of sadness around. I used to grow with it, and it became normal for me.
Being sad is not difficult. It is effortless. Just look around, and you will find a million reasons to be sad. With happiness, it is quite the opposite. It is an uphill run. It requires a constant flow of energy. It needs you to close your eyes and live in a bubble, noticing nothing around you. I live with my eyes wide open. It is an easy, downhill ride. I waste no energy. This is why I am a happy man.
