Operation Cannoli #78 — Getting Close!

Ciao a tutti,

We are well on our way to filing our new case! We are waiting on a few passports and one codice fiscale, but we are all set with POAs and vital records documents! Our lawyers are satisfied with all of them, so once we have a few apostilles and those passports, we will be ready to mail the remaining documents to Italy and file our case.

Just as a reminder, we will have our next payment to the lawyer in the beginning of November. It will be about $445 per person. I will send another update closer to that date, but I wanted to remind you in advance.

Last thing: our lawyer’s office does research about property and inheritance, in addition to their citizenship services. I got in touch with them about this to determine if there is any property in Italy that we might be entitled to by inheritance. They did some research (read: they sent a guy to Ceprano to look into their records), and it appears that our ancestor Arduino did have some property that was left in his name, but that the municipality of Ceprano expropriated it to build a road.

There is a legal process for claiming property, and Ceprano should have paid or attempted to pay the owners of the land. Our lawyers are now working to ensure that this was followed and that the descendants of Arduino are not owed money. They shared a whole tranche of documents with us about what the researcher found, so if you are interested in taking a look at them, reply to this message. (These notes are technically available to anyone online, and I don’t want to share these with anyone outside of our family.) Dad and I paid for this research separately, and it has cost about €1000. If we have any inheritance coming our way, we will make sure that it is divided fairly.

That covers it! Thanks for your work getting POAs sorted out, and I can’t wait to tell you that our case has been filed. Expect a reminder from me in about a month about the final payment.

Abbracci,

Noah
