Ciao a Tutti,
We finally got our Powers of Attorney (POA) from our lawyer, along with instructions for requesting Italian fiscal codes (AKA codici fiscali) from our consulate. Please read this email carefully and let me know if you have any questions about anything.
POAs
I have a POA for each of you to print and sign before a notary. If you live in Oregon, I will collect that from you and take care of apostilles on your behalf. If you live in Montana or Nevada, I’ll ask that you sign it before a notary and then send it off for an apostille. If they can send it on direclty to me, that would be great and probably save you a little bit of money in postage.
I will send each of you your POA form by email directly. It has your personal information on it, and this email goes out to a list that prohibits attachments, so it’s best to send it directly.
Codici Fiscali
The lawfirm has requested that each of us obtain an Italian Fiscal Code or codice fiscale (the plural is codici fiscali). You can do this by filling in a couple of forms and emailing them to the consulate. Most of us are supposed to use the Consulate in San Francisco, but Aunt Kasandra would use the Consulate in Los Angeles.
Here’s the deal: I had Levi be my guinea pig and request a fiscal code from both San Francisco and Los Angeles. LA got back to him in about a day with his code, and we are still waiting for San Francisco to get back to him after a month and a half.
I propose that we all send our requests to LA and see what happens. We will use Aunt Kasandra’s address for this. If they refuse, we can send the requests to San Francisco. We also have the option of asking our attorneys to do this for us in Italy, but they charge extra for this and the consulate is free.
I will send detailed instructions about how to request a codice fiscale from the LA consulate in the email directly to you.
