Autumn Half Term Trip Day 4: Mojacar

We're working a few hours each day as usual when away - "maintenance hours" we're calling it. Today, we had the team meeting at 2.30pm. But just as we were kicking off, sat outside with my iPad as the Zoom client, Skye spotted a tiny little stray kitten that has been hanging around the campsite.

She watched it as it approached, she watched it as it stole her food and water, and just when we (absolutely stupidly, in my opinion) thought she may actually - gasp - be tolerating it, she made a huge leap for the poor thing.

Unfortunately, in doing so, she body-swerved around the pole holding the awning up, and then launched herself towards the cat with so much power, she sheared the pole in two at its half-way join, collapsing the awning and breaking it.

So, no more awning, and a no-doubt expensive repair for when we get back - nice one, Skye.

Seconds before the "incident".

Kids discovered the petangue (court? pitch?) and enjoyed learning how to play it with some help from the site's long-termer, then we headed off into town this evening promising them pizza.

But despite Google maps assuring us two pizza places were open, it was not to be. So we ended up in a restaurant called Vientos Nortes, apparently Basque, but basically Spanish - and very nice too.

Faye had steak tartare, I had secreto Ibérico which was slow cooked and fall-apart amazing, Maya had a huge burger, and - of course - Dylan had steak. We had a slice of cake to end a good meal, then made our way back down the hill in the dark, helped by Faye's ridiculously fancy head torch (it even has its own app).

Certainly a bit warmer sat out tonight, and who should come and hang out with us but the little kitten, which played on Faye's lap before falling asleep for an hour... tomorrow could be interesting once Skye gets a sniff.
