The kids have been enjoying having the play park, table tennis, table football and other games at hand to wander off and do, as well as the swimming pool, which Faye and I have been taking it in turns to jump into with them. Meanwhile, us adults have been working as usual, just the morning session before it gets too hot, before doing as little as possible for the rest of the time. The "routine", especially in this campsite, is easy and fulfilling.
I took Maya down into town on foot today to do the shopping, throwing everything in our lumpy but lightweight foldable travel backpack to hulk up the hill home. She is an asset because she spots things I'm looking for in the shop before I do half the time, and alerts me to making daft purchases by mistake, like sweetened yogurt when I thought I was buying plain.
We're noticing a change in Dylan, he is asserting more independence, drifting off on his own - sure, when we find him he's usually at the play park, but he's definitely hitting the stage where he's following his own thoughts, and if they take him to somewhere that's not with us, so be it.
We had pesto pasta with chicken, green beans and asparagus for our dinner, sat at our table right on the edge of the site watching the sun go down. When we were on our honeymoon in South Africa and on safari, they used to set up a table and serve G&Ts as the sun set over the elephant watering hole (or whatever stupendously breathtaking scenario they'd concocted for us), and this feels just the same - great people, food made with care, and a superbly privileged place to enjoy it. Good times!
