The Rise of AI in Reality and Science Fiction

I have been following machine learning and AI developments over the past few years and it seems to be a conundrum.

There is potential for this technology to be an impressive utility but also prone to abuse beyond imagination or comprehension.

In December 2014, Stephen Hawking warned that full AI could end mankind.

In March 2016 Microsoft tested an AI twitter bot and had to shut it down as it went from friendly to Nazi friendly in less than 24 hours.

In November 2016, Adobe did a demo of Audio manipulation just by copying and pasting words and letting the software create speech using the actor's voice.

Another experiment from Facebook in June 2017, when their AI chat bots started communicating in their own language.

The latest use of machine learning is the forms of Tom Cruise TikTok deepfake videos.
