The $14 Policy

I was at the beach with my family when a stranger bought a car insurance from me.

Not a friend. Not my dad poking at the signup to be nice. Someone I don’t know, on one of my .ro apps, paid through the broker, and I got $14.

I can’t even log it on TrustMRR. The money goes through the broker’s Romanian payment processor, so the dashboard stays empty and the commission still shows up. Best feeling of the summer, and I was wearing flip-flops.

In July I bought a car policy from myself. Wizard worked. Payment worked. The PDF never came. I wrote that one already. This time I wasn’t even at the keyboard.

$14 is not a company. It’s a commission on a 6-month RCA that won’t autocharge. When it expires they can hit renew or leave. That’s the whole business. No lock-in. No "limited spots."

I used to think I’d feel like a real founder at some ARR number. I felt it at $14, on vacation.

So here’s to strangers, and to boring insurance apps that work when you’re not looking. 🥂
