I bought asiguraricalatorie.ro in 2021 with a pile of other .ro insurance domains. Health went live first as a comparison site. Car came next as a real checkout. Travel sat on the list like a promise I kept making to myself every summer.
Yesterday the admin table filled with green badges. Ten rows. Primă. Plată: Emisă.
I bought the first one. Rails World is in Austin in less than two weeks. First time I'm going. Seemed stupid to ship a travel insurance platform and then buy the policy somewhere else.
The other nine belong to my father-in-law. He's leaving Friday with a bigger group. He waited. Literally held the purchase until I flipped the stack live so the money would go through my business. That one still sits heavy in a good way.
I posted the small win on X. The short version is true: it was a long road, lots of back-and-forth with the broker on insurer edge cases, and their payment processor fought me again even though I'd already wired it for car.
The longer version is messier.
Same broker. Same card rails. Different product code paths that behaved like they had never met. Some insurers quoted fine and then refused to mirror into the broker dashboard. Some returned a PDF that wasn't a PDF yet. Sandbox said the selling point wasn't approved. Production said POS access forbidden. I flipped a payment document type one way for Netopia, then the other way when Renomia rejected the payload, then back again when Colonnade broke. I turned the wizard off in production so nobody could pay into a half-live stack. I turned it on again so Netopia could approve the flow on the real domain. I queued the quote calls so six SOAP requests wouldn't open every time someone tapped "Vezi prețul."
None of that is the product people see. They see destination, dates, a few travelers, compare medical / storno / bagaje, pay in lei on a card, get the PDFs on email. Buy it the night before you leave. No account required. Broker is Renomia, ASF-authorized. Sunergos runs the pipes.
I still can't put Romanian broker commissions on TrustMRR. The money goes through their processor. The dashboard I care about right now is that green Emisă column, and the fact that my father-in-law waited for me.
Second insurance platform. First one taught me the payment processor lies in new dialects. This one taught me the same lesson slower, and that family will wait if you ask them to wait for something real.
