“If I’d asked people what they wanted they would said a faster horse.” - Henry Ford
As an early adopter of tech I couldn’t pass this one up. It’s an artificial intelligence (AI) based computer “The Pin” that is operated primarily by voice, is worn on the chest, and includes it’s “Egg”, an external battery charger.
For years I’ve aimed to live in the here and now, “be here now” since neither the past or future truly exist. This is called living with presence to whatever is happening internally and externally, i.e. what’s real.
I’ve been using the Pin for 3 weeks and I’ve discovered its capacity to enhance this presence. Previously, engaging with tech meant withdrawing, reaching for my iPhone usually, stare at a screen and do xyz, oblivious to the here and now moment.
I still need the phone to perform many tasks. But I’m learning for a subset that I can stay present to my immediate experience (of people, places, things). And take a photo, send a text, translate a language, initiate a phone call, retrieve a stored memory or inquire, for example, how long does it take to get rid of ants using ant bait? (2-3 weeks to eliminate a colony). The Pin helps to keep me in the present.
Finally, I’ve learned that the Pin is becoming a tool for increasing self-awareness. It’s immediate availability and capability is like a mirror of sorts that reflects what I’m thinking. Questions such as the definition of a word arise and are easily clarified by simply asking the Pin. This allows me to stay immersed in activity. This seemless integration of tech and cognitive processes enhances my curiosity (given the information retrieval power of AI), awareness of self (meta-cognitions) and presence in the moment. So, that’s the early adoption. I’ll see where it leads.
