Making better choices leads to making better choices.
When I'm just living, I naturally gravitate toward orienting life around things I enjoy. That mostly means good food and a tasty adult beverage with my wife or friends. That decision leads to disappointment with how I feel. My clothes are tighter. I'm more tired and sluggish. But when the next opportunity comes around I make the same decision because it will make me feel better (or that's at least the lie I believe at the time).
Trying to live intentionally is hard. It takes consistently doing things that are good for you. (That doesn't mean a night out can't be good for you. Just that lots of them in a row probably aren't.)

It doesn't make sense to continue wanting something if you're not willing to do what it takes to get it.
If you don't want to live the lifestyle, then release yourself from the desire. To crave the result but not the process, is to guarantee disappointment.
- James Clear
This is really good advice. There are desire that I'm not ready to release. I want to stay as healthy as possible as a aged. I want to feel good and look good, as much as it's up to me. I want to be a man who follows Jesus well. I want to love my family and others, to parent my adult children with purposefulness and wisdom.
The only way to build a life like that is consistency. Do things that move you toward these goals even though you can't see the progress. Keep showing up. Make one good decision, then another.
The funny thing is the more good choices you make, the more you want to make good choices. The opposite is true as well. Here's to one more good choice.
