Feedforward

Hey you two

I’m taking an online leadership course, and part of the process for me is to send you a quick summary of some of the things that I am learning. The course is behavioral-based, and there are 100 behaviors.
Obviously, I will only be sharing a few, which will be those I am really focusing on to start. The 100 behaviors are broken down into 10 modules, so I’ll share one or two from each module about every other week. This is the first one.

FEEDBACK / FEEDFORWARD
Feedback is something that can be difficult to hear, especially once you’re in the working world and you have less of a direct relationship w/ people. This goes for both giving and receiving feedback. Here is one behavior that can help you be someone who gives good feedback to others.

Give “feedforward” rather than feedback.
When someone does something you want to give feedback on, there is no way for them to go back and change. So rather than saying “The way you gave that speech was too dry,” tell them, “In the next speech you give, work on being a bit more upbeat and energetic to engage your audience.” The difference is that when you give feedforward, you empower someone to do better next time.

Let me know if you have any questions. I’ll try to keep these short…and I love you both very much.
