Affinity

Affinity
Genre: Jigsaw puzzle
Bundle: Racial Justice
Sabe's rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Not every indie title needs to break the box and think outside the mold. It's just as worthy to deliver a solid, enjoyable entry in a well-trod genre, and that's Affinity for the click-and-drag jigsaw puzzle. On each of its thirtyish boards, you'll be presented with an assortment of peculiar shapes, and it's your job to push them around until they snap into place and reveal some delightful still life or animal portrait.

Some of the puzzles get pretty difficult; the pieces are cut along contours and shades of color rather than a grid, making for some truly inscrutable squiggles. But Affinity wants you to succeed. There's no time limit, no achievements to chase. The sound design is a relaxing soundscape of harmonious tones that chime along with your actions. It takes a bit over an hour to get through, and you'll feel less stressed than you were when you went in!

A small accessibility warning: this might not be a good one for folks with more than mild vision impairment. My eyes are pretty good, and even so, I was having a hard time seeing the boundaries of some pieces toward the end. The pastels are pleasant, but in places there's just not enough contrast for the task at hand.
