Human Programming (Is Awesome)
In this human life, we have been so traditionally programmed to function in patterns and loops.
We're hard-wired with with a basal ganglia! This habit forming, memory storing, pattern recognizing part of brain ensures that brushing your teeth doesn't feel like a brand new, complicated experience every morning. It also functions as an autopilot that helps us drive home after a stressful day of work subconsciously. It's amazing what we are capable of doing subconsciously and efficiently thanks to that lil complex system of basal ganglionic buggers.
The Bad Guy
However, these bastards are also the villains to our story!
That's right! While your brain is working for you, it is also working against you!
Nail biting, cigarette smoking, instagram scrolling. All of those shameful acts you hate yourself for are so deep rooted and programmed into your subconscious, it's horrifying. It's like you're now fighting for your freedom against your bad habits formed by your BG, like that fight against AUTO from Wall-E.
Long story short, you are stuck in a loop(s) that you are not pleased with. (SPOILER ALERT) Some of these loops, you don't notice until it feels like it's too late to break free from. (It's not)

The Hero
We must consciously train our subconscious mind.
- The first step is conscious awareness of both your good habits and your bad habits. write that sh*t out. give yourself credit for the things you're proud of and fully own up to the things you need. When does this habit happen? Who was there? What happened right before this habit trigger? What time of day?
- Sometimes breaking these loops means leaving the track! (eg: leaving your phone outside of your bedroom and buying an alarm clock to prevent AM scrolling.)
- Sometimes it requires help to get you started. like an accountability partner who gets on your ass to double check that you're being consistent in your quest for developing good habits.
- Rewarding yourself for the small and consistent victories is essential to this battle of habits. I personally try my best to make the process fun. Everybody loves having fun. If you can find a way to make a good habit fun and rewarding, it will increase your chances of sticking to it.
That's just the start! The point of this was to empower you to realize that the power is in your hands! You don't have to be an observer in your own life! Once you develop awesome habits, you become and awesome person!
