A Look at my Redesigned Morning Routine

Every once in a while, you have to mix things up. This applies to meal planning at home, workouts at the gym and yes, morning prayer.

I enjoy sitting by the glow of the Christmas tree in December and January. There’s just something about it. Still, by February, things had gotten stale. The tree was long gone. The visual stimuli of a large family room connected to the kitchen… too many distractions.

And, quite honestly, it was impacting my prayer.

So this past week, I decided to mix things up and go back to my prayer corner in my first floor office. While not as comfortable as the family room, it’s made a huge difference.

First, there’s just less stuff. As a highly visual person, this has made prayer easier. It feels almost chapel-like and the artwork I have in the office is all very intentional.

Second, I’ve paired this new spot with a new schedule which has also made a difference. It goes like this:

6:10am Wake up, brew coffee, stretch

6:15-6:45am Prayer, journal, Bible reading

6:45-7am Walk dog

7am-7:25am Shower, shave, iron clothes

7:30am Take daughter to school

8am Go to morning Mass

I’m really happy with the changes to location and the revised schedule. I’m at work by 9am and ready to roll.

How about you? Have you made a change to your morning routine that’s helped you to pray better?
