As the New Year approaches, we are often invited to reflect on the “top ten stories” of the past year and imagine the “trends that will define us in 2022”, etc.
I actually love these quick reads (or watches if you’re a YouTube fan). One in particular which was fascinating was The Economist’s trends for 2022. I had no flipping idea what the metaverse was or that China is salivating at the recent struggles in the U.S.
Once you get through these greatest-hits sorts of things, why not consider a deeper invitation in the new year: silence. This professor invites her students regularly to sit in silence through three separate activities. She then has them share what the experience was like. Now that’s an interesting way to begin a new year.
It’s also a reminder that The Quiet Life is there for the taking, a deeper life filled with greater intimacy with the Lord amidst our noisy everyday world.
Happy New Year friends,
Mike
