Break-Taking and the Triduum

It’s Holy Thursday and the Christian church around the world celebrates the first day of the Triduum. Today begins a solemn and slow march towards Easter Sunday.

Let’s savor the rich symbols of these days: the washing of the feet, the prostration of priests, the stripping of the altars, the silence, the veneration of the Cross, the lighting of the pascal candle and so much more.

These are days to savor, to slow down and to thank God for the great gift of salvation.

This slowing down process is hard for most of us. This article struck me about the three breaks that successful people take daily. This is about leisure, for sure, but also about stopping to smell the roses. Too often, we rush through things- through conversations, emails, YouTube videos, meals, or whatever. Leisure is good, savoring is better.

Today, let’s slow the thing down and enter wholeheartedly into the Holy Triduum.
