“God wills for us the present moment.”
These words, written by Servant of God Dorothy Day in 1937 can be found in her journal. The lines before and after speak of hard work, poverty and the many demands on her life.
The fact is that we “have” right now. We are in the present moment which the Lord is allowing to happen.
It may be busy.
It may be stressful.
It may be loud.
It may be depressing.
It may be a time of great joy.
It may be different from what you thought it would be.
All could be true. But it’s here and it’s from God. What a gift.
Dorothy Day leaned into the present moment, hardly an easy thing considering that she optd to live with the poor. She concludes that portion of her diary on May 8, 1937 with this, “It is a great privilege to be here in a rectory in this slum.”
