Imagine you work at a company for three years. It’s a startup, very small and simultaneously very impactful. The CEO is a celebrity of sorts. Crowds show up for his public events.
Three years in, he tells you that you should produce more and that you should really think about becoming a better member of the team.
What?
After all, you’ve felt that you have been a strong contributor. What gives?
In today’s Gospel, Jesus says the following, “By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.” (John 15:8, emphasis mine)
Following Jesus is a process and no one is an overnight success. So yes, after three years of teaching and preaching, Jesus reminds his followers that they need to continually become his disciples.
Each day is ridiculously new and full of opportunity.
