Simplicity Explained

Simple living is popular these days and minimalism is attractive for many who seek to make life more manageable. You don’t have to look far for a “simpler way to organize your home” post or podcast episode.

I think that simplicity is also a hallmark of The Quiet Life. In re-reading Fr. Dennis Berry, S.T.’s book (God’s Valiant Warrior), I came across this quote within the context of Fr. Dennis’ discussion on simplicity.

Quoting Blessed Jon Ruusbroec, a Christian mystic, “The simplest persons…are the most deeply immersed in God, the most enlightened in their understanding, the most diversified in their good works, and the most wide-ranging in the way their love flows out to all in common.”

Streamlining it further, the simplest people are those who immerse their thoughts and their heart in God. This then extends out towards others. Simplicity then, is not just “for me” but rather is a gift through me to others.
