Three ways to Increase Eucharistic Devotion

Today, the Church celebrates the Body and Blood of Jesus. The Church, similar to how it does with Holy Family Sunday and Holy Trinity Sunday, holds up for us a particular aspect of our faith. It’s up to homilists to help us make a practical application of the feast to our daily lives.

As that may or may not happen in your local parish, lay folks can take a deeper dive into the feast on their own. In my family, we’re going to approach it like this:

1. Reading of the day’s Gospel (to set the stage and context)
2. Discussion of the current Eucharistic revival taking place around the country (visit website to provide evidence) (link)
3. Sharing of how this is impacting faith practice (link). Note that the photos are particularly impactful.
4. Explanation of current paths across the nation, culminating with the Congress later in the Summer.
5. Reminder of three things that we can do to increase Eucharistic devotion:

A). Make a good, meaningful sign of the cross. (Rather than the quick, “I’m swatting flies” approach that we can easily make)

B). Make a good genuflection in Church.

C). Cross yourself when you pass by a Catholic church.

As the saying goes, your mileage may vary but putting some extra attention to our own Eucharistic devotion will go a long way.
