Today's 1st Reading, the 2020 Election & the Origin Story of Quiet Moments Blog

Today is the memorial of St. Augustine of Hippo, widely regarded as one of the Catholic Mount Rushmore saints in Christian history. He's a big deal.

And, today's first reading from Mass is from 1 Thessalonians 4:9-11:

Nevertheless we urge you, brothers and sisters, to progress even more, and to aspire to live a tranquil life, to mind your own affairs, and to work with your own hands, as we instructed you.

This passage inspired me to begin the Quiet Moments blog shortly after the 2020 election. I was completely burned out from the arguing and polarization in America. I really felt the Lord put this passage on my heart, encouraging me to ignore the noise and focus on my spiritual life with greater intentionality than ever before.

St. Augustine, pray for us!
