Letter to myself (22/11/24)

Dear Self,

Howdy from your favorite alien!

I have been waiting to hear from you. A week is a lot of time especially given how much fun it is to write to you. I know you have work to do other than writing letters. How I hope that was work. Until then, let me get going.

So, you have been doing well lately keeping pace with your goals, doing what gives you joy and learning to be joyful doing everything that needs to be done.

I noticed you clandestinely booked yourself for a conference. An event on management for organizations in the development space. There were a few motivations I guess. Your team is doing a study for a large foundation looking to capture insights on how tech organizations spend on CSR. There were useful learnings to take back to the study. One of the greatest actors of our time was there to present his case study on how they solved for drought in a waterless state during peak summers. His co-ceo, the real time hero was very impressive too. One of the leaders you admire and have had the pleasure of working with as a creator of some iconic institutions in higher education was there. Lots of notes from his talk, but the one that moved you most was “Solving problems at scale is more important than creating a large organization for solving it.” It felt right to you, didn’t it? The talk after that on solving for water shortages had their case study based on this philosophy. So, it all resonated and registered well.

Earlier days in the week have not been less eventful. You are building a fantastic core team at your firm backed by the best co-leaders one can ask for. Do touch some wood for that, please! You are not alone, anymore. You are addressing challenges at work with a clear goal, plan, focus and process, something you are not used to. Don’t forget, it’s thanks to the wonderful team backing you.

A C-suite leader at a product tech company you worked with recently faced some challenges with his board as they went back on recommendations accepted earlier. You offered to help and support him when he needed it most and put in the extra hours at no cost to him. This is good stuff! He helped you when you needed it even more with work that was well timed for the challenges you faced. Isn’t that what life is all about. Be there for each other, especially when they need it most.

I saw you were quite happy to meet this extraordinary woman entrepreneur in the food space you helped shaped the vision and brand for over 7 years ago. It was a proud moment to see how she has stayed true to the ethos and continues to build and grow the company the right way, leading the 10-100cr journey in the most inspiring manner. It’s tough to come across such entrepreneurs these days, but ain’t you blessed to have worked for a few of them? Com’n, be proud, give yourself a pat on the back.

The best part of the week was of course the time you spent with your peer group of founders you call your trust group! Meeting them every month cheers you up like nothing else does. The month gone by was reflected upon with each other over endless coffees and laughs. Those who were low felt high again. The high ones felt higher. New goals were set as older ones seemed easier to achieve. All in all, a morning worth a timeless recall.

What else? Quite a lot honestly, but then you have work don’t you. Get lost and come back again next week.

Cheers,
Your friend for life
