Letter to myself (28/12/2024)

Dear Self,

Howdy from your favourite alien!

You looked somewhat confused this week my friend. Delayed starts, holiday season coupled with cold, dark and wet Delhi winters created work FOMO for you. You aren’t used to low productivity days. Nevertheless, lots of live labs and decisions taken decisively made up the day or week for you.

You spent a day conducting a live lab with the founders of a men’s health startup. The discussions threw open so many interesting possibilities. Advising them over the last few months have made you reflect deeply on health issues from a man’s perspective. Being a man helps in relating better. They have a term sheet from a good investor to consider.

The day before opened a brilliant opportunity with a Fortune 500 company, as you explained the Live Lab model to strategic problem solving to one of their Asia leaders. He is excited to try you out on a few problems in different markets he leads. Next few days will go in building proposals and pitching. Should be fun doing this.

Another live lab for a literacy education initiative of a large philanthropy organization ended with some crucial decisions on their positioning, naming and brand promise. All the leaders and managers at their end are deeply passionate about their work and impact and it’s so inspiring to see them participating so enthusiastically in finding the best answers for the future of their organization. One of the challenges is to strike the right balance between creating a unique and independent identity versus leveraging the identity of their famous parent organization.

You helped sharpen the positioning, value proposition and pitch for a digital manufacturing startup during a short live lab at ThinkSpace. They are touching $0.5m in revenue and have created some very exciting IP that investors find promising. The founder duo you are advising are smart, driven and quite chilled out. It’s crazy how they make it appear so easy.

The week had started with a live lab on the group corporate brand of a large Indian major, the goal this week was to take key decisions on the corporate identity. A lot of finer nuances were discussed and some meaningful progress made means you are on track. The larger the client, the more the number of stakeholders, the more nuanced the decision making process and the slower the time to make decisions.

Mid week, you had a candid chat with one of your peers at your Trust Group. He runs one of the fastest growing businesses in the pet care industry known for high quality products. You helped each other reflect deeply on opportunities in your respective business models. Infact, the last few days have been all about reflecting on what you can launch next from BOD, an offering you can scale. Lots of exciting ideas have come up, one from your client as well. The Christmas party with your leadership team at home quickly turned to the same discussion just after a glass of wine. There is palpable anxiety and excitement about the future. Maybe, one of the reasons for your confused state.

The new year is on the horizon. The next few days promises to have a clear sky in Delhi and in your mind too. Take it easy pal and buy yourself a smile.

Cheers,
Your friend for life.
