Day 14 - 17, November 6 - 9, 2021

Destination: Nowhere (TCB staying put, parked among the fruit trees in Eric's backyard)

The next four days in San Jose were a beautiful break from miles of driving. We were glad to stay in TCB as it alleviated having to pack up our belongings and move into a house. It also made us feel more comfortable about being there, while not imposing on Eric's housemate Andrew.

I spent most of the week relaxing in the back yard sunshine, knitting, writing and catching up on news and correspondence.

Conversely, Eric and Van were not relaxing. Eric and Van had projects planned that would keep them busy for most of the days. It started with a trip to Home Depot for 2x4's and other supplies.

Their projects included organizing the garage workshop by hanging bikes, repairing a switch on the table saw gifted to Eric by his uncle, and building a base for a Corian countertop left by the previous owner that would  become the perfect place for the pizza oven and prep station. I sat in the sunshine observing and chuckled. They were two-peas-in-pod. These pics show the results of their efforts.

Eric treated us to his favorite breakfast spot in downtown San Jose. The food is California amazing, especially because I don't have to my own real maple syrup for my waffle!

Eric also took us to a beautiful winery on a mountaintop overlooking the Pacific Ocean near Santa Cruz. Even though the curvy, narrow and steep roads were a bit hairy for my sea level genes, it was worth every bit of sunshine, vistas and wonderful company.

I borrowed Eric's car on Sunday morning to visit the nearby San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles. After 20 minutes in traffic trying to maneuvre around all the closed roads due to a 5K race, I detoured to Target to pick up a few TCB necessities and some housewarming "necessities" for Eric.

It was the most amazing Target store I had ever seen - two stories and two escalators side-by-side - one for people and one for full sized shopping carts. Of course, I had to record this amazing invention for posterity.

It was nearing the end of a perfect visit, with the exception of missing Emily, who was away. We hope to meet up with her on the return after our trip north for Thanksgiving.

Thank you Eric. We are so proud of you.
