Day 19, Thursday, November 11, 2021

Destination: Nowhere, staying put at Westport Beach, Northern CA coast...

We woke to a cool ocean breeze passing through TCB, as it was warm enough to sleep with the rear windows cracked.

Our plan for the day was to enjoy a full day and night at the beach.  This was the first two night stay in TCB. We were the only van; all others were big rigs from Oregon.  The campground was a popular spot with adequate facilities.  There were few empty spaces.

The beach was a significant sized cove nestled in between steep walls of rock, sand and vegetation. US 1 jutted above one part of the beach, looking like its days (or years) were numbered.

We enjoyed a long walk on the beach with Quinnbo.  We explored further north along the beach to find a secluded cove which was only accessible at low tide.

The sand was compacted with few shells or rocks, only a scattering of very long, alien-looking, rubbery stalks of seaweed that could props in a sci-fi or horror flick.

I was thankful for our previous Trader Joe's discovery as we enjoyed our simple supper of cream of brocolli soup. Such meals were easily heated on TCB's propane cooktop with our nested, removable-handled pots that were a birthday gift from Monica. Her  YouTube research said that such nested pots were invaluable for #vanlife. We agree!

The fog had rolled in, with visibility less than 25 feet. When I proposed that we head to the beach with a headlamp, bottle of bubbly and resuable grocery bag as our bench, Van hesitatingly agreed.

Once there, we could hear the rumbles of the heavy surf hidden by the dense fog. Headlamps and flashlights dotted the beach, a sign we weren't the only crazies. As we sipped, Van changed his tune and agreed that this was not such a bad idea. (Growing up near the Cape, I was no stranger to dark night, beach gatherings, just saying.)

As the fog lifted, the view from the beach looked like we were staying at a crowded amusement park.

On the contrary - we arrived back to a cozy and peaceful TCB for our second night's stay at the beach. Thank you TCB.
