Day 24, Tuesday, Nov 16, 2021

Destination: Lucky One Casino Parking Lot changed to Elk Creek Campground, Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, CA

We awoke to darkness, which was really the forest being itself.  I felt as though time stood still here among the giant redwood beauties. We departed at 10:07 AM after a leisurely breakfast of coffee, instant oatmeal and yogurt. Last night, it began to rain so I packed up camp while Van cleaned up the the dinner dishes.  Pack up was easy this morning.  We returned to Avenue of the Giants with the intent of heading north to the casino parking lot.

With all the wineries we had visited, when we came upon 6 Roads Brewing Company, Van was eager to turn in as the brewery visits were sparce. After I agreed to take the helm after lunch, Van was even more excited to try some northern CA craft brew.

Before lunch, we had meandered a bit to see the CA shoreline which appeared along the 101 beyond the Redwoods. Our boat roots led us to a shoreline village just south of Eureka to Humbolt Bay. After our delicious and picturesque lunch stop, a visit to the ranger at Kuchel Visitor Center in Redwood Creek, we learned where there were possible available campgrounds. We decided to take a detour to Prairie Creek Visitor Center where we saw three large elk bucks feeding near the road.

We were so close that Van had to restrain Quinnbo from his excited barks. Just in time to snap a picture, the elk remained perched in their majestic poses for all the tourists (us) to see. At that moment, we decided to stay here. We secured the last open campsite. Still feeling the late lunch, we opted to enjoy Rose's Strawberry Wheat crowler from the brewery with chips and salsa for dinner.  After all, I read that 6 Roads Brewing was the second all-female owned brewery in CA. It was one of the best breweries I have been to, as the "vibe" was perfect.  And I was feeling proud that I got to enjoy it after doing my duty as DD. Thank you TCB, for another perfect day along the Lost Coast.
