A colleague of mine asked me to help them with their personal finances. I have a reputation for saving, investing, and really stretching $1. My boys from college love to retell a story of me bragging about spending $1 over the course of 21 days. Did that actually happen? Not sure, but the lore lives.
During the discussion, my friend revealed just how little he had saved over his lifetime. It amounted to approximately 8months of living at his current expense levels.
It was heartbreaking to hear, but I wanted to give him a plan to pay down existing credit card debt and work towards stockpiling a little cash while he could.
He currently spends every $1 he earns.
It's a very blunt reminder that you have to save a lot of what you earn if you ever want to close your life the way you want.
Earn a paycheck. Pay yourself some cash via investments. Preferably real estate, some stock VTI, and some bitcoin. Use the rest to pay for what you need.
... and never borrow unless it's an investment into your earnings.
More to follow.
10 cups of food met. I did eat some of my kids leftovers but 10 light cups is under 2000 calories for me so I should be fine.
