For some time, I’ve contemplated moving all my blog writing to Substack—and I’ve finally decided to do so.
In these dark times, which so easily beset us with anxiety and despair, I’m making a practice of gradually writing myself alive.
What you’ll find on my blog "fishing the universe" is art: selected writings I’ve chosen to share with you because they first brought a glimmer of hope to me.
I see you, my fellow human, as a universe. You boom radiance—as does each universe. We are not a cold, dead place.
I first received the spark during my childhood in Fishertown, Pennsylvania. My mother’s maiden name was Fischer. I was given my father’s name and became a Soliday. Named for soul and sol, I came into the world positioned toward both inner and outer light. Years later, as if by design, I am like a fisherman in search of aliveness. Daily, I cast my line into the cosmos, baiting the infinite with a tackle box of stardust. I am patient, waiting longer than I want. I am seeing what wants to come back.
I believe it is in the waiting that we become who we really are. More prepared for what might want to be reeled in.
This new space is still for telling stories and reflecting aloud on everything from leadership and innovation, to the natural world and the human condition. I also intend to write a bit more boldly on issues I care about. This space is for igniting a match in the darkness. The darkness will not overcome it.
