Steve's Reads Aug 26, 2021

Just dropped my 2 year-old at school/daycare for the first time. He cried. They say they all cry. I know that he will at least enjoy the peanut butter and jelly sandwich in his lunchbox. As we head into fall, the world is not looking so great, but it does seem like things are starting to shift, or at least reach a breaking point. I'm cautiously optimistic...

Vaccinated have just as much viral load as unvaccinated: Johns Hopkins via CDC

https://publichealth.jhu.edu/2021/new-data-on-covid-19-transmission-by-vaccinated-individuals

This isn't really an article like usual, but it's a piece of data that people seem to be confused on. As the media/gov has tried to start a war between the vaccinated and unvaccinated (I won't speculate as to why), the reality is that if you are vaccinated, an unvaccinated person poses no more risk to you than another vaccinated person. In fact, it is possible that they are less of a risk, because in theory the vaccinated person would be able to have a higher viral load without having symptoms. So don't be an asshole like they want you to be. There's ZERO reason to care about someone else's vaccination status.

Tetlock and the Taliban by Richard Hanania

"When you don’t have the time to research something for yourself, what you should do is trust those who have good intellectual habits." This is a great piece on the failure of our expert class and how to best stay informed in this new landscape.

Interesting and provocative as usual from Tyler Cowen.

Possibly the best article written so far on Woke Capital. How we got here, and why everything sucks.
