Steve's Reads July 16

I can't believe it's already mid July! I am sharing only two links this week, but they're both pretty long so let's go...

Big Tech Has No Power At All by Curtis Yarvin

https://graymirror.substack.com/p/big-tech-has-no-power-at-all

This is the best essay I have ever read on how power actually works. It is worth reading the entire thing at least once. It makes a lot of things make sense, and offers a very useful framework to sort out the institutional craziness that seems to be dominating life. General disclaimer that sharing a Curtis Yarvin post with certain people WILL get you cancelled, so forward at your own risk.

Ethan Watters "Crazy Like Us" reviewed by Scott Alexander

This one is just interesting the whole way through. I have no point to make with it (although I do have my own thoughts). I have not read the book, but I suspect that a measured look at it from an expert is actually more interesting than the book itself.
