Steve's Reads Oct 21, 2021

Sorry for my absence. It's very cool to get messages from a few of you who actually miss my newsletter when I skip a week. The whole point of this was to surface interesting things that I read to like minded people who may miss them otherwise. That even a handful of friends and family get value out of it makes it well worth it. I don't care about having any "reach" here, but of course you can always feel free to share an individual link or the whole newsletter with anyone who you think would enjoy it (please do not share with anyone who might not).

Seems as good a time as any to announce that we're moving to Texas next month. It's amazing how cliche that sounds at this point, but in this arena we are following the heard. For now we will be keeping our place in CA and popping in and out periodically, but at least for the next couple years I expect to be based primarily there. Of course there are lots of logistics involved, so I may be less regular on the newsletter until things settle down, but I will try!

Today I am going to keep it really simple with a Bitcoin edition. There's only two links and they're both great reads. Let's go...

The Quest for Digital Cash

The story of Bitcoin's immaculate conception is one that has and will be told in a million ways and is almost always interesting. This is an interesting and informative angle -- a fun piece that provides the foundations for understanding what Bitcoin was created to accomplish.

Bitcoin and the US Fiscal Reckoning

Now we jump to the present. This is just a tremendous article that explains how Bitcoin fits in with current macro-economics and geopolitics. I highly suggest going down the necessary rabbit holes to understand all of this as it will become more and more pertinent and ultimately vital.
