Kindness of strangers

We just finished sharing the dinner table with our Airbnb hosts. We are deep in the Aquitaine countryside on a farm.  They invite guests to prepare their own food with them. The host Marie Laure is from St Pierre Miquelon, so is quite familiar with Canada.

This morning our host in Angouleme rode with us to help us find the cycling route we needed.

We have had a number of experiences like this. Thank you Susan  King for your reference  to Psalm 91 “angels have been commanded to protect you”.  We’ve encountered many angels.

  • Three bike store mechanics have refused payment for some minor fixes we’ve needed
  • A couple drove  me and my bike 7 km when I got separated from Larry
  • A fellow stopped as we rode up a hill to give us a bottle of electrolyte drink
  • Drivers who give way to cyclists on country roads
  • Cashiers and waiters are always patient with our rusty French.
These acts of kindness are a highlight of this trip.

Spotty Wifi and cell service, so just two photos.  I’ll share more on our rest days in Bordeaux
