GlobalDLA.org member Komal Nasreen did this. By hand. A pencil drawing. Not AI, just pure talent.
The pic on the left was taken a few years ago. I have been using it as my profile pic on social media. I hope that I can keep using it (for a few more years) as I have......matured.
If I replaced my profile pic with the pencil drawing from Komal Nasreen, what would you think? Probably your first immediate thought would be that I used some sort of 'AI' to make that pic. Nope. All talent, just pencil and paper. Old School.
Now that I told you that this is a pencil drawing, how does that make you feel? Now that you know that the pic on the right took TIME. Not seconds, not minutes, but hours of a person's life to create. Sit with this for a minute or two. When someone uses 'AI' vs. when someone creates art with their skill, their talent, their gift.
I would not pay $1 for the pic on the right if I thought it was created with AI. Heck, I can do that myself, with zero talent.
I would pay way more than $1 for the pencil drawing on the right, once I KNEW that it was indeed done by hand. By a real person. Done by my friend Komal Nasreen.
I think that will be the lesson of "AI or not to AI" for all of us, for the next few years. True talent will always be in demand.
That was an amazing gift from Komal. She gave me her....time. That pencil drawing is a slice of her life. I don't think AI will ever replace that. That feeling in my gut was instant: "Oh, wow. How long did THAT take her?"
You won't ask the question "how much of your life did that cost" when AI does the work. And that's the lesson for all of us.
