Glad tidings to you! (bags, that is....)

Something that may surprise you is that the origin of the garbage bag dates back to 1950 by Canadian inventors Harry Wasylyk and Larry Hansen. Union Carbide Company bought the idea in the 1960s and began manufacturing the product for household use under the name GLAD trash bags.

Here's some info regarding Glad products: Glad is an American company that is manufactured in Canada. The Clorox Company of Canada manufactures Glad products in Orangeville, Ontario. The Orangeville plant is the only manufacturer of Glad compostable bags in the world.

Ah, Tom???? Where are you going with this?????

Glad bags are not bear proof. In fact, I think that they ATTRACT bears. So when we put out the trash for Monday morning pickup, I need to do it THAT morning. At around 5:30 AM. If I put out the trash Sunday night, we shall get....bears. All night long. A few times this year, our crew from Blue Diamond Disposal had to get out of their cab, and clean up the mess left by the bears (who sometimes are still hanging around). This is well beyond their job description. Normally they can 'pluck' the trash barrel with a mechanical hook, dump it, and move on to the next house. Not when bears make a mess. That is when trash removal automation goes out the window.

So when I get their Merry Christmas card once a year (taped to the top of the bin) I know that it is my chance to give them a little Holiday Cheer. I think $50 each should do it.

Think about all the folks in your world that can use some holiday cheer. The folks that make your life just a little bit more.... bearable.
