According to my LinkedIn history, it was more than 30 years ago that my buddy was working for a company called CardConnect. He had the idea to offer all of the schools serviced by my company MTP - http://MyTeachingPartners.com credit card processing services. Sure, I said. Why not.
The original name of NetSuite was NetLedger. Founded in 1998 by my friend Evan Goldberg, the company initially offered web-hosted accounting software but later expanded its services to become a full suite of business applications and changed its name to NetSuite in 2003 to reflect this broader offering. Evan said we should offer all things NetLedger to all of our MTP clients. This sounded like the conversation I just had about CardConnect. Sure, I said. Why not.
Oh, and we could offer credit card processing to all the NetLedger customers. Evan said, sure. Why not.
NetLedger (1998) The company was first known as NetLedger, which focused on providing web-based accounting software. Name Change to NetSuite (2003) The name was changed to NetSuite to indicate its evolution beyond just accounting into a comprehensive "suite" of business management applications, including ERP, CRM, and e-commerce functions.
One morning I received a text message from a friend who worked for a NetSuite VAR in the Seattle area. The text was very simple - just a URL to a NetSuite web page for a press release. Once I clicked the link, I understood why he knew it wouldn't require explanation: NetSuite had been acquired by Oracle.

So, when First Data bought CardConnect that was big deal. And when Fiserv bought First Data that was a big deal. And when Oracle bought NetSuite that was a big deal.
When I took over running the NYDLA.org the country was in the middle of a recession. Everyone in the country was broke. Heck, the NYDLA was broke! Everyone was looking for ways to save money. Offering all of our members the ability to save money via First Data | Fiserv was an easy conversation. It is easy to sell ice cold pure and clean drinking water to someone crossing the desert, right?
It is now 2025 and we offer all things Fiserv to the 174K+ K-20 schools of the NYDLA.org | NADLA.org across North America. After all, these schools don't collect tuition via 'cash only' right? And it's K-20 schools not just K-12 as in medical schools, law schools, graduate schools as well. Oh, and we offer all things Fiserv to the alumni of our 174K+ schools. (GetFiserv.com | GetClover.us) Hey, did I mention that Fiserv bought Clover? Clover.com was acquired on December 28, 2012, by First Data Corporation, which itself was acquired by Fiserv, the world's largest merchant acquirer. Hey, keep up!
The point of this little post is that sometimes success comes from simply being in the right place at the right time. Success also comes from saying "Sure, why not" when a friend calls. Or texts.
Hey do you want to JoinNYDLA.org ??? { Ah, the correct answer is Sure. Why not. }
