My 65th Horizon

unnamed - 2025-10-02T044847.165.gif

So... first of all today is my 65th Horizon. My 65th Birthday. I know this because everyone on my Social Media feed is reminding me that I am......old. Heck, even Starbucks wants to give me a free coffee today.

OK, so I got that going for me.

I have blogged in the past about how I met the folks at Horizon. And how the confusion between Horion and Horizon landed me a major account: Horizon Organic Dairy.

Well this morning I got a nice little animated birthday card from Horizon. It really Mooooooved me.

B Corp you say? Hey Grok, what is a B Corp?

A B Corp, short for Certified B Corporation, is a business that meets high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency, as certified by the nonprofit B Lab. Unlike traditional corporations, B Corps are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on all stakeholders—employees, customers, communities, and the environment—not just shareholders.

Key features include:

Certification Process: Companies undergo a rigorous assessment (the B Impact Assessment) evaluating their practices in governance, workers, community, environment, and customers. A minimum score is required for certification.

Purpose-Driven: B Corps balance profit with purpose, aiming to create positive societal and environmental impact.

-Examples: Well-known B Corps include Patagonia, Ben & Jerry’s, and Seventh Generation.
- Legal Commitment: In some cases, B Corps adopt a legal structure (like a benefit corporation) to embed their mission into their governance.

There are over 9,000 B Corps globally as of recent data, spanning various industries. Certification is voluntary and must be renewed every three years. For more details, check B Lab’s website at www.bcorporation.net.

Here is the link all about Horizon and their B Corp status.

Yesterday, I had that Beatles song When I'm 64 playing in my head all day long. I guess it was because I was in my last 24 hours of being 64. And I knew that when I woke up in the morning I would no longer be 64. When I woke up, I would be........ on Medicare!

And so I am writing this blog at around 5:17 AM EST. Starting my 65th horizon bright and early. Hmmmm... what to do, what to do.... how can I best spend my 65th birthday???

GOT IT!  I am going to call my attorney first thing (well, his first thing...) and I am going to tell him that I want to become a Certified B Corporation. That is going to be my ride home.

Hey Horizon, thanks for the birthday card. And the gift: My B Corp journey begins today.
