Every Tuesday is 'Cheap Chicken Day' at our Local Kings Supermarket. Normally a Roasted Chicken is $9.99 but every Tuesday it is $6.99. You save $3 per chicken!!! They know to RESERVE chickens for me. On a slow day I'll get two. On a busy day (especially if the kids are in town) up to six. We text back and forth to make sure we got it right.
Brian Mitchell, the guy that runs the Deli Department at Kings and I have become friends. They make it such a big deal.... it's like they rope off my chickens. Hey, those are for Mr. Capone! VIP seating for those CAPONE chickens. There is always a sign on the chickens: SOLD TO MR. CAPONE Hands off!!!
Where are you going with this Tom???
Two chickens: I saved $6. When I buy three, I save $9. It is not about the $3 savings per chicken. It is the way that Cheap Chicken Day makes me feel. { I named it that, they did not...} It's the texting back and forth. The fact that Brian hand picks out special, 'large' chickens for me. And the sign: SOLD TO MR. CAPONE. It's an event. When I walk in the store they shout out my name like Norm at Cheers. Mr. Capone!!!!
Kings Food Markets is owned by Albertsons Companies, Inc., which acquired the gourmet chain for $96.4 million in 2020 following a bankruptcy auction. The stores are operated as part of Albertsons' Mid-Atlantic division, often alongside Acme Markets.
With 2,253 stores and 270,000 employees (like Brian) the company is the second-largest supermarket chain in North America after Kroger. Originally founded in 1936, the chain has transitioned through various owners, including Marks & Spencer and Angelo, Gordon & Co.
Every business needs a Cheap Chicken Day. Every customer needs to feel like the greeting that Norm gets at Cheers.
It's never about the $3
